Sennheiser Headphones History

First Sennheiser Open HeadphonesEstablished in 1945, Sennheiser is a world leader in microphone and headphone technologies. Founded by Dr. Fritz Sennheiser and seven other engineers from the University of Hanover.

Over the past 67 years, Sennheiser has become one of the most recognized headphone brands in the world thanks to their countless innovations in the industry.

In 1968, Sennheiser released the world's first open headphones. The induction of open headphones significantly revolutionized the headphone industry as sound quality was greatly improved. The original open Sennheiser headphones, the HD 414,  propelled both the Sennheiser headphones brand, as well as growth of the company.

Until Sennheiser released their open headphones, headphones all featured a close design. While closed headphones do sound good, true audiophile headphones are almost exclusively open as the open air flow is ideal for optimal sound.

Sennheiser continued to innovate in the audio field for many years. In 1995, they released the first version of Sennheiser wireless headphones, the RS 5. This product was extremely well received and worked exceptionally well for television viewing, as well as high fidelity listening. In 2003, Sennheiser entered the hi-fi gaming headphone market. Five years later, the first wireless earphones were released, as well as the flagship Sennheiser HD 800, which featured novel transducers, as well as an innovative earpiece design.

To this day, Sennheiser remains one of the largest players in the headphone market. As pioneers of noise-canceling technology, Sennheiser delivers an exceptional combination of performance & price.
